LocalHikes.com is focused on providing viewers with information on hiking opportunities in over 270 metro areas in the United States. Information on hikes are gathered by a team of volunteer reporters throughout the country, and posted on the LocalHikes web site using an innovative software application called the HikeReporter.
LocalHikes.Com was developed by Jim Zuber, a software entrepreneur involved in developing test tools for the high tech industry, during a 1 year sabbatical. The development effort provided Mr. Zuber with the opportunity to get hands-on experience with many emerging technologies, as well as giving him an excuse to get out and hike more frequently than he ever dreamed possible. He continues to pursue development of this site, as time allows.
The site provides easy access to information about hiking opportunities in your local area. You can quickly select hikes near your home that are appropriate for your skill level and the time you have available. Photographs from the trail, hike summaries, and scenery ratings make it easy to pick the very best hike.
Once you have selected a hike, we provide all the information you need to hit the trail including topographic maps, elevation profiles, and references to trail guides which contain detailed trailhead and hiking directions.
