Distance:6.5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:2136 ft
Hike Time:4 hours
Difficulty:Strenuous

Summary: This steep uphill hike culminating in paulina peak can be driven (along a different route then the trail) eliminating some of the solitude at the peak, but to drive is to miss some of the rewarding viewpoints that you stop at to catch your breath. Bring water and a camera, this is a thirsty hike with plenty of excellent photo oppurtunities. The hike is a pretty consistent uphill grade so pace yourself. At the peak, look to the right and see the 5-mile long obsidian and pumice lava flow. To the left are the Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Bachelor. Behind you stretches Oregons seemingly endless high desert.
Trailhead: From hwy 97n turn right onto Paulina East lake rd (cr-21) just after La Pine, following the signs for Paulina and East lakes. Turn right onto fire road 500 following the signs to the paulina peak trail. Park at the paulina peak/newberry crater loop trailhead. (Lat:43.66535 Lon:-121.27622)

Good hike, not too steep. Great views, especially when you get to the top. You can drive to the top if you want, but I rather enjoyed the push to the top. :) This would be a good warmup for some stiffer climbs.
