Summary: This is an easy to moderate hike with very little difficult terrain. The beginning of the hike can be a little muddy at the southern end of Nahmakanta lake. The trail follows the lake shore (much closer than the USGS maps show) then turns away from the shore and begins its first accent up a ridge on the eastern side of Nesuntabunt Mtn. Upon descending you will reach Wadleigh Stream and Wadleigh lean-to this is the last water source between here and the summit. There is also a great swimming hole here. From the stream the trail gradually climbs upward to the summit, on the way you will pass some interesting rock cliffs. In the summer notice the many varieties of fungus amongst the lush moss covered ground. The summit has a wonderful view of Nahmakanta Lake and Mt. Katahdin in the distance.
Trailhead: This area can be reached by travelling from Kokadjo, ME over the Second Roach Pond road to the Penobscot Pond Road which enters Nahmakanta Public Reserve land at its western boundary. After entering this area turn left onto the Jo-Mary Rd then turn right 1/4 mile later to get to trailhead. From Kakadjo follow the signs with an inverted V over the letter "P" to the parking area, these signs lead to a camp just past the trailhead. (Lat:45.73568 Lon:-69.10628)
