Summary: The trail starts out on a gently grade as it works its way through a hollow and a few perennial and intermittent stream crossings. The surrounding forest is primarily oak-hickory with the occasional piney western ridge. Around one mile on the trail there is a great connector trail called Locust Gap Trail which allows a quick switch to Beards Gap Hollow trail or Blue Suck Falls trail. For that reason Douthat is an excellent place to hike. The park boast 43 miles of hiking trails on 25 different trails. So, one is able to create a unique hike since the trails connect wonderfully. Continuing on Stoney Run trail the ascent up Middle Mountain begins and just about a mile past the connector trail hides the Stoney Run falls. There under the dense canopy of Rhododendron is a multiple set of falls maybe thirty feet high total. They are really make the hike worth while and serve as a great resting point. From here is all up until the trail ends atop Middle Mountain. Trailhead: You will find the parking lot for this trail on the left hand side of 629 approximately 2.4 miles from the park entrance coming from Clifton Forge.
