Summary: Vastwood Park is a 340 acre park with a 19 acre lake as its centerpiece. This loop trail takes you around the entire lake. The trail is paved, and offers very gentle, rolling terrain. There is a suspension bridge over part of the lake, built for foot traffic only. The trail will take you past a swimming area, beachhouse and the campsite (12 sites with electric and water).

There is a graveled spur trail that leads you up a hill, which offers a very lovely view of the park and of the surrounding forested terrain. The spur trail is the only significant elevation gain of the hike.

Trailhead: Vastwood Park is located between Hawesville and Lewisport on Highway 60. Entrances to the park are located on Highway 60 and 925 Park Road. The trailhead is located at the beachhouse, with a historical marker. (Lat:37.90638 Lon:-86.7913)

I love to walk the loop, it never gets old, always something to look at. I walk it at least 3-5 times a week, and I drive there from IN to do it.

This is a very popular hike with the locals. New things are being added all the time. There is also numbered outdoor excercises to do all the way around the trail. Geese frequent the lake as they migrate. Many nice benches including one hand carved out of the log are available to veiw the lake. My husband and I are frequent visitors!
