We hiked the round about way starting at Gorham Mtn parking lot, to the Bowl, then up the Beehive. We were a bit disturbed by the sudden drop of the trail without warning, signs, etc. Backtracked down to the Sand Beach entrance where we saw the sign about steep trail, cliffs, iron rings. :( Spectacular views, but if you're afraid of heights (like me) take the longer way around.

Great hike. Short, steep trail to top of beehive. Can be exciting or nerve-wracking depending on your fear of heights. Care must be taken, a guy died in a fall from this trail in 2000.

One of the more challanging Acadia hikes. It's short but quite steep. The most challanging hike at Acadia in my view is Pricipe, a vertical ascent up a cliff. Beehive is right behind it though and like all hikes at Acadia, they provide beautiful views at all stages of the hike.

First time to hike this. My 9 year old said "It looks fun but unsafe". If you have a fear of heights, watch out as this is pretty vertical. It was tough in a few spots but we loved challenging ourselves and made it up and down ok. Would not recommend for any child under 8 though. The views are incredible!

I tought it was a good mountain. It is easy to go down not sure about goin up it. Because I went up a driffent one. I do not remeber the name of it. BUt it had a lot of caves. It was cool. Not many shady spots but still cool.

After 5 previous trip to Acadia I was finally able to do this hike. My wife and I have two young kids and this trip my brother-in-law came too so the two of us were able hike Beehive. Really excellent views of Gorham, Sand Beach and Great Head. Photos cant do it justice. You are right on the edge of the cliff so if you dont like heights, you are in trouble. Some spots had iron rungs. The trail itself was really good with only one or two tricky spots. Dont underestimate it though, you can really fall off the cliff if you arent careful. Wear some good boots and dont attempt it with young kids or your dog (the family in front of us nearly had their dog fall off the cliff after we specifically warned them before they started. Dumb.)
