High Sierra Loop - Tuolumne Meadows to Vogelsang

Highlights:

Lovely meadows with majectic views of Voglesang peak
Near:Yosemite National Park, CA
Scenery:
Distance:7 miles
Elevation Gain:1500 ft
Hike Time:5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Point to Point

Summary: The trail starts out heading east on the Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne River, then quickly heads south up Rafferty Creek. The hike is steadily uphill, through a number of lovely flower filled meadows, to the rather indistinct Tuolumne Pass.

The Vogelsang High Sierra Camp is in a spectacular setting at over 10,000 foot in elevation, with imposing mountains rising at the base of the camp, and lovely lakes surrounding it. We didn't swim or dive into Boothe Lake, but we did have a wonderful time exploring Fletcher and Townsley Lake just above the camp. There was a lovely hidden water fall in the rocky area between the two lakes.

Trailhead: This hike is part of the High Sierra Loop, a series of 6 camps located between Tuolumne Meadows and Yosemite Valley. These camps have facilities for backpackers, but the best way to go is to stay in the tent cabins which includes great meals. Most of the camps can be reached via a day hike from either Yosemite Valley or Tuolumne Meadows.

This particular hike starts near the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge in Yosemite National Park. (Lat:37.87584 Lon:-119.3353)

We would go again, but with lighter backpacks. You only need one light pants - the kind with the zipper to make a longer pair & two pairs on undies - powered gatorade for the water you carry, carbs for snacks, hiking poles, etc. You don't even need a stove if you pay for the meals that are WORTH IT! I'd go again for the Glacier Water up there.
