Thanksgiving day 2006 What a great way tot sepnd a Holiday. Began at Cosby, via Low Gap. Just before the AT, we ran into snow and ice. Became deper as we approached the tower, tothe tune of about 3" on the ground. Some fantastic bear tracks in the snow. Temp was almost 40 and not a cloud. Spent about an hr on the deck, in the sun and forgetting about all those folks stuffing themselves. A young lady made her way to the tower. she was from France and we had a good conversation. Just as we were leaving, we spotted a bear, abot 100 yards away, sitting on a rock outcrop. Great way to spend the day. If you haven't been there, do so. The hike is tough but well worth it.

I hiked this route on 11/10/06. The weather was warm for this time of year and sunny. The leaves are way past peak and most are on the ground, especially from low gap onward. The view from the tower was awsome! My hiking time to the tower from the hiker parking area was 2:15. I took my time on the way down to take lots of pictures.

This hike is worth every minute that you spend going uphill. The views are incredible. We went in November of 2005 and I hope to go this year also. We encountered snow, ice, whoars frost that fell to the ground sounding like sleet and looking like shredded cocconut. It is strenuous. We spent 2 hours in the fire tower. A family had left a book that they published about the area and their family that was fasinating. Has to be one of my favorite hikes.

I hiked this in mid Sept and was rewarded with great views of both NC & TN. The hike is most defintly streneous, but for a average hiker such as myself it took less than 3 hrs up. I highly recommend this hike if going to be in the Cosby, TN area for a day of hiking.
