Summary: The trail is located in a gem of a park located in SE Oklahoma. Rough Canyon trail is the namesake of Rough Canyon which runs into the man made Lake Wayne Wallace. (There are great little know but spectacular views from the top of Buzzards Roost above the lake don't miss it while in the park, it's a tough but short hike or drive to the top depending on if the gate is locked or not) The trail runs from Robbers Cave along the mouth of the Rough Canyon to a few small ponds. When full after rains there is great waterflow and waterfalls along the often dry creek. The spiral cuts and flows in the rock proove water has been at work here for quite some time. The trail then loops through the mountains and past horse trail connections and oil roads back to the cave. A great day hike and visit to the cave. Or leave out on the trail late andr bring your tent and camp at the ponds overnight. There are 12 miles of trails here to enjoy for hikers, 25 miles for horse lovers. Trailhead: The Trailhead for the Rough Canyon Loop can be found at the parking lot for Robber's Cave in the State Park. From the parking lot you can visit the cave and enter the extensive trail system. The parking lot is closed and locked from dusk to dawn. Overnight campers are allowed to leave their cars overnight locked in the parking area. Robber's Cave State Park is located just North of Wilburton, OK in the San Bois Mountains of Southeastern Oklahoma.
