Summary: THE WILDLIFE IS ABUNDANT HERE,THE VIEWS ARE BEATIFUL.THE HAND HEWN,AND HAND SET BRIDGE ACROSS THE LAKE IS WORTH THE WALK.THERE ARE NOW SEVERAL GEOCACHES IN THE LOOP SO MAKE SURE AND LOOK FOR THOSE AS WELL. IF YOUR THE FISHING TYPE BRING YOUR FISHING POLE. ALL YOU HIKERS WILL LOVE THIS ONE TOO. AND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO BE PREPARED AND ALWAYS LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE. The name for this trail is actually the "Beachem trail" I kept looking for Leatherwood Loop on the map then I noticed that Beachem was the trail around the lake. Good family hike. Just remember to keep a watch for Mt. bikers. They all are very polite but we try to stay out of their way. The highlight of the hike is the Dam and the views of the lake from the dam. Very peaceful.
Reviewed by ronnie on 5/12/2009 this is a good hike i enjoyed it the second time i did it .just make sure you go down by the loading dock to the building an get a map. the hike is very scenic i loved the waterfall coming off the damn. if you dont have the map remember to keep going left on the turns or you will do like i did the first time an get lost. not good. thanks to a bicyclist who had a map an water i made it out the first time. the second time i had the map an it was much easier just going around the lake on the 4 mile trail.(get the map) well worth the hike to see the damn.
