Summary: You will start the trail by climbing a carefully placed set of stairs that extends for about 3/4 of a mile up until the Huguenot head area. From there you will have to steeply climb Champlain Mountain. Be careful when it is wet as it may get slightly slippery. Once on the top of Champlain mountain you will enjoy great views. Take trails in the right direction twice (you do not want to return yet, and you do not want to take a Precipice Trail yet... or do you?) Continue on the blue marked trail towards The Basin. You will enjoy ridge views of both sides (the Atlantic, and the Mt. Desert Island of Acadia National Park). This views will continue up until you get to The Basin, a beaver "improved" pond. At this point you have many options. You can continue to Halfway Mt. You can try the Beehive trails. Or you may want to turn back using Champlain Mt trail all the way to the Loop Rd. Return to car via Loop Rd. Trailhead: On Rt 3, about 2 miles south of downtown Bar Harbor. The parking area will be on the west (left if you come from north). It will be right north of The Tarn pond. You will have to carefully cross the road to start the hike on the east side of the road.
