Summary: If you have never been to DuPont State Forest or even if you have, you will need a map. There are a maze of trails here, I like this hike for the solitude of the lake. There are several different combinations of trails that can be used to get here. I took trail 9 ( Buck Forest Rd.) over the covered bridge to trail 19 (Conservation Rd.) then added a little difficulty by taking trail 64 (Pitch Pine Trail, rated mod.) to trail 48 (Lake Dense Trail). This is a beautiful spot and if you go early you can have the place to yourself. There is an added bonus of another small lake past Lake Dense that I did not put on this review purposely. It is much smaller and is on the DuPont S.F. map but not on these here. Check it out. The aquatic life is abundant there. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. See you on the trail!!!
Trailhead: To reach the trailhead From Greenville S.C. or Brevard N.C. use Hwy 276 to the DuPont State Forest. Turn off 276 onto Cascade Lake Rd. then turn right onto Staton Rd. (Just past facility on the right) Park in the Buck Forest Access Area which will be on your right. The trailhead is past the gates. (Lat:35.09 Lon:-82.38)
