Summary: This is a 27 mile hike (or 30 miles depending on the trail combination) that most people take three days to complete. Hiking North to South I'll make the following suggestions about where to camp: - Day 1: Go 12.5 miles and camp just north of the Bradley Wales Picnic Area there are two great campsites with incredible vistas and you're within an easy walk of the pit toilets and water pump at the picnic area - Day 2: Go 9 miles and spend the night in Dillon Hollow. A beautiful campsite with year-round water - Day 3: Now you're left with only 6.5 miles of mostly downhill hiking Pine Creek Outfitters (www.pinecrk.com) will shuttle you or your car to/from either end of the trail for a fee. They also have a "must-have" guidebook and trailmap for sale. Trailhead: This trail can be hiked either from North to South (from Ansonia to Blackwell) or the South to North. I've hiked the trail twice and have always started at the North end, but most people seem to prefer starting at the Southern end. The Northern trailhead is located just south of the town of Ansonia (about 11 miles west of Wellsboro) just off the road to Colton Point State Park. You'll see a parking lot with toilets across the road from a maintenance facility. The trailhead is right next to the restrooms and is well marked. Until Mid-July 2006 the first .2 miles of the Northern end has been rerouted to the road to go around some nesting bald eagles. The Southern trailhead is across the street from the Rattlesnake Rocks parking area on Rte. 414 just west of Blackwell.
