Gila National Forest - Trail to the Past


Highlights:

Short hike to cliff dwelling ruins and pictographs. Good hike for kids.

Summary: From the trailhead, after reading the sign go east to the first T-junction. Turn left and go to the next sign. Proceed up the trail to a 4-way junction. Turn right and continue up the hill. When finished exploring the ruins, return back down the trail past the T-junction. Further down the trail is another sign below pictographs. Return back on the trail and turn left at the T-junction to the parking area.
Trailhead: From Silver City drive north on Hwy-15 for about 40 miles to enter the Gila National Forest. Continue on the highway another 3 miles to a left turn. Turn left and continue 1.5 miles to the Lower Scorpion Campground parking area. The trailhead is to the right of the kiosk. Look for a paved walkway with signs. Water and restrooms are available at the trailhead. (Lat:33.23027 Lon:-108.2577)
