Distance:1.6 miles round trip

Summary: This is an up hill hike through thin and thick stands of pine trees to the top of a hill with a view of Kings Valley and Mary's Peak. The trail from the parking lot is narrow and can be muddy (note old water filter holding pond). The trail then merges with the South Meadow loop, which is a single lane dirt road (more like a mowed strip). Take the trail to the left or up the hill and continue up hill to the top. Along the way watch for deer, the wild flowers meadow and a view of Mary's Peak. From the top you be able to see King's valley. Since this trail is covered in grass, it can be slippery if wet, watch your step. For you geocachers, there is a cache at the top.
Trailhead: Heading west on Highway 20 (past Philomath, OR), take a right on the Kings Valley Highway 223 towards Wren (follow the signs to Beazell Memorial Forest Park). There is a parking lot at the Park and a kiosk with trail routes. (Lat:44.64635 Lon:-123.41925)

Corvallis had an amazing day of sun (ONE day:))so we decided to hike...somewhere...this is where we ended up and it was a PERFECT day hike! Beautiful scenery!! Just enough 'out of breathness' to feel a bit of a workout going up and down was nice and easy. I am definitely going to pass the word onto family, friends and coworkers!

The history of the place gives it a romantic air and for me made it even more special. Great trees, good walk to do with the family. Spectacular when there is a little snow on the ground. It would be nice to see the view from the top, I'd imagine it would be great. Thats life though.

03/11/08. This is a sweet park.In 6 weeks there will be lots of flowers, especially Larkspur. There are 3 different trails and the South Ridge is the least scenic, but the most exercise. You could go up the Creek trail( very scenic, 6 different types of flowers;Snow Queen, Yellow Violet, Skunk Cabbage, Oak's Toothwort,Trillium and White Currant), then at the fork after crossing the creek go left/uphill on the South Ridge, along the edge of a clear cut and loop back and down to the parking along old forest roads;(no signage). Then take the short bird trail, which is a bit near the road, but has a nice pagoda for birdwatching and a meadow vista. Barely 4 miles to do all trails.

A unique trail, because the old logging road is now covered in grass. It is always an enjoyable and peaceful hike. But, the view at the end is anti-climatic. Large trees obstruct the view of Mary's Peak to the south. You can see it on the way back down, but for a better - totally open view, when you are at the top, make your way through a thin layer of trees to be at the top of the meadow, and with a gorgeous unobstructed view to the south.
