Summary: From wherever you park along this road, continue on it on foot. The road works its way up several switchbacks before entering the valley floor. Along the way you will pass by several ruins of old buildings. I don't think there was ever much mining activity in the area so I'm not sure why all the buildings are here. The trail will reach Como Lake just before treeline. This is where motorized vehicles must stop. The trail continues its climb up the valley and passes several more beautiful alpine lakes. Above you to your right will be the imposing face of Little Bear Peak. As the trail nears the end of the valley it ascends a small headwall where many paths break off. Which path you choose is up to you as they all will get you above it. After passing the head wall head toward the ridge just to the right of the saddle first. The views from this ridge are breathtaking and a little scary. Follow the ridge the rest of the way to the summit. Trailhead: From the intersection of Colorado 160 and Colorado 150 (East of Alamosa) head north on Colorado 150 for 3.1 miles. There is no sign for the road to turn on, but it us just after the 3 mile marker on the right side. Turn here. After a quarter of a mile you will pass a sign letting you know you are in Wilderness area. Continue on this road as far as you are willing to go. The road quickly turns from sand to rock and becomes quite rough. If you are driving a passenger car you won't get far. Standard 4x4's will make it to maybe 10,500. The road goes to Como Lake, but unless you own a Rock Crawler you'll have to walk most of the way. Reviewed by Jerry hickson on 12/4/2007 i havent had the plesure of hiking this peak but i sure would love the chance to take it on. i have done a few small hikes but now i want to relly test my self to see if i have what it takes. 
Reviewed by BurqueBomber on 7/25/2006 I am attempting this feat 4 days from now. I am from albuquerque NM and have done a few 13ers including both spanish peaks. I have never attempted a 14er so I hope a jump to the 4th highest in colorado isn't too much. I like to think I know what I am doing but that also means I can turn around without too much loss of pride. I will post again on monday or tuesday.

I am 16 years old i hve done some smaller peaks like pikes peak and the west spanish peak so i hope to have this one on my record some pepole think that i cant hike because i am from Texas but i wll prove them wrong Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
