Near:Stanley, ID
Scenery:
Distance:9 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:1900 ft
Hike Time:5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:OK, but a few difficult spots
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: A nice hike up a forested trail, past lovely Fourth Of July lake, then over a high ridge with great views of the Sawtooth range to the west, high peaks of the White Clouds and a pretty meadow below. The trail over the ridge switch back down to the meadow then another downgrade through the pines, across a large rock strewn sidehill, and back into pines where several lakes are nestled under the craggy peaks. Some of the small lakes were dry when we were there in the late fall but the others were full and beautiful. The fishing was good too.
Trailhead: The trailhead is located by following Idaho hwy 75 about 15 miles south of Stanley. After crossing fourth of July creek the gravel road access is on the left. The trailhead is about 15 miles at the end of this road. The parking area is large with unloading ramps and toilet facilities. A Sawtooth Recreation trailhead pass is required. Excellent Hike. Being my first such hike after a break of almost 4-5 years it was tough for me. But the pain was really worth.

Great hike! Spent 3 days in that mutha. Tip, don't throw your friends shoes in the lake. Also, don't take too much whiskey. Beautiful lakes, peaks & valleys. Nice views of the Sawtooths.
