Summary: This trail begins right where the houses end and climbs steadily, sometimes steeply, to a dirt road coming up from Moreno Valley. Along the way, views of Riverside, and on clear days, Ontairio and the San Gabriel range open up. From the road at the end of this hike, numerous other trails branch off through Box Springs Mountain Park. Birdwatching is popular in the park, and a surprising amount of wildlife. I have seen coyotes, Mule deer, and rabbit from the trail, and there have been reports of cougar sightings, I have not been that lucky. If you go on the weekend, expect company, but I have often gone on weekdays and had the hill to myself. Trailhead: From Riverside 60 fwy eastbound: Take Blaine St. exit, follow Blaine St. all the way to the end. Park in dirt lot where Blaine ends, then take short alley to residential street and turn right, following the street to trailhead proper, where parking is prohibited. The trail is in very nice shape. Saw one man (with four dogs) along the way. Without much rain, it is pretty dry though it is a great way to get some exercise in a short period if time. for everyones information, you dont have to start at the end blaine st. you can drive up two trees road to the trailhead, people do all the time. Though it's a short hike, the steepness at various points still makes it a very challenging hike. I was in decent shape the first time I did it and still found myself out of breath half the time since there are very little flat 'recovery areas'. When we did the hike on a weekend morning it was just the two of us- it's not as well known as Ice House Canyon. We also did it in spring when the hills were green and quite beautiful. The view isn't particularly impressive, but it does give a panoramic 360 at the top of the surrounding cities. I'm about to hike it again and my guess is that it won't be quite so picturesque now that it's dry and summer! I hike this trail regularly as I live close by. There is no water and almost no shade - bring plenty of water. When passing the small springs, take care of poison oak on both sides of trail - don't pet dogs on trail as they may have poison oak on them. Numerous options at the dirt road. Enjoy! I did this hike today with my girlfriend. It was a fun trail to hike, and it wasn't overly strenuous. This is a good time of the year to hike this one, since there was a lot of green and lush vegitation. We saw a few birds and a lot of lizards out there too. i liked this hike. we went from the top to the bottom and back up. The way back up was exhausting and I finished about 20 minutes after everyone else. The side of the mountain looks like ireland. I live in riverside and have hiked the two trees trail at least 75 times over the years. Sometimes, I will do it before I go to work in the morning. It is good for training your legs when getting ready for a much bigger hike I hiked it this morning on 11/29/05. It is also great when you want to hike and just can't get out of town My friends and I hiked this trail right after the Skyline2 to extend our dayhike. It was pretty good. We started from the top of the trail and hiked down to the bridge and back up. I have hiked in the area before and seen a few deer but this time the only wildlif we saw besides birds and bugs were coyotes. There were four adults and a pup along the way. I really recommend this hike because its easy enough for anyone, though the climb up can be somewhat of a challenge. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
