Summary: The Brookland section of Northeast Washington is a distinctive area that feels more like a separate community than an outlying part of the nation's capital. Heavily Catholic, it's a fascinating, multi-ethnic spanse of campuses, religious institutions, residential neighborhoods, and historic cemeteries. The route traverses by the Basilica, the wold's 8th largest church and the second tallest masonry structure in DC. And the famous statue marking the memorial to Marian Adams, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and nicknamed "Grief" by Mark Twain. Trailhead: Take Metro Red line train to Brookland-CUA station.
