Summary: No dogs allowed here. Its a short, easy but pleasant walk in this small oasis of green in the middle of Bergen County. Catch the trail behind the kiosk and turn left. It will go through an often wet area and it follows a stream for a way, then a drainage ditch. To your right is the meadow with acres of phraghmites spread out before you. Stay on the trail and you will soon pass an observation platform. A good spot to view birds from. The trail winds around the lake and turns east, then south before returning to the beginning. This is by no means a wilderness hike, as you're never far from roads and area homes, yet is worthwile if you're interested in birding and the area is also known for its many butterflies. Because of its short length its also a great hike for families with young children Trailhead: Take the Garden State Parkway to Exit 163, Route 17. Continue north on Route 17 for 7.2 miles to Allendale exit. Go west on E. Allendale road for one mile to Franklin Turnpike. Turn right and go about 0.2 miles to a small parking lot on the right. Parking area is between Pittis Ave and Alison Ct (which are on right). Small and hard to spot. Great Blue, Green, Black-crowned Night Herons, Great Egrets, and many ducks are regulars. great place for Warblers in spring and fall. 3 raised observation platforms and 7 benches along trail, No picking any pants. Enjoy, Mike - Deputy Marsh Warden, Celery Farm i love it i live right by it and i ride my bike there almost every day. just watch out because i saw a cyote there. Nice place for quick nature walk or run. love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have gone to CF many times, to watch birds, the 'hike' is just a walk. It is very pleasent though. Try making a 'C' by starting on the right of the loop, go around until you pass the last viewing platform or buy the butterfly garden, turn around there. The 'Dead Zone' ahead of those two spots is not interesting at all, besides a 'C' lets you extend the walk a bit. For those of you who don't drive like me, take the NJ Train to Allendale Station about a mile south east of CF. I visited the Celery Farm for the first time on Friday, June 22nd by myself and did the one mile loop alone. The next day I took my husband and we enjoyed it together. Bring your camera and/or binoculars. We saw a Blue Heron and an egret (spelling?) from one of the three look-outs above the water. A nice lady let us borrow her binoculars. The loop is totally flat and consists of dirt-covered/ mulch covered ground and several foot bridges. This is a great spot to take kids- even little ones in strollers. The "Farm" is a bird santuary on a lake and it extremely well maintained. On Saturday we saw a volunteer putting down mulch and checking the bridges. We will keep going back!! NO RESTROOMS. Found this by chance a few weeks ago and have been going pretty regularly since. Nice easy exercise and very serene environment. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
