Near:Blue Diamond, NV
Scenery:
Distance:2.5 miles
Elevation Gain:300 ft
Hike Time:1.5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate

HikeType:Point to Point

Summary: Well marked, signed, easy to follow trail up and down slopes along base of Bridge Mountain. Four benches along route make great places to catch your breath, drink water, eat snacks, or just enjoy the view. Some loose rock on steep climbs - use caution and go slowly. Wonderful variety of cactus (cholla, barrel, beavertail, etc.), wildflowers (columbine, paintbrush, mallow, yellowbush, etc.), and plenty of oak, pinion, agave, yucca, some joshua, junipers, manzanita, creosote, ponderosa. Brilliant red soil mixed with limestone, aztec sandstone boulders, oxide pimples, other rock formations. Look up at the incredible sky and impressive views of Bridge Mountain (W), White Rocks (N), Rainbow and Mt. Wilson (S), Calico Hills (E) -- Las Vegas valley visible past Blue Diamond Hill, and the mountains surrounding Lake Mead off to the east. Leave early in the a.m. to see deer & burros --listen for the braying. Ponds/streams at both Icebox and Pine Creek.
Trailhead: 18 miles W of Las Vegas Blvd. on Charleston Ave (SR 159) to Red Rock entry (fee) station. Take 13 mile scenic loop road to either Ice Box or Pine Creek parking. Personally, I recommend beginning from Pine Creek parking which makes a nice 5 miles round trip. Leave parking area and descend down hill towards Pine Creek Canyon, look for sign 1/2 mile from parking area. Take Dale's Trail at sign and head N towards Ice Box Canyon. Can take this trail to Skull Rock (sign and bench) and retrace to Pine Creek for an easy 1 1/2 mile RT (beginner/small child) instead of continuing on Dale's Trail. Can combine Dale's with Arnight, Juniper, Oak Creek for a rigorous all-day hike. Parking at Pine Creek fills up early. (Lat:36.12622 Lon:-115.47415)

Since the early 80s I have enjoyed hiking up the washes into the area now seved by Dale's Trail. The topography is varied enough to get a some exercise, yet won't wear you down in the warmer months--just carry water.

This is a beautiful trail that offers much solitude. Which is especially nice now that Red Rock is getting so crowded. I've been on it 3 times and never seen a soul. The 3 or 4 benches along the way all have spectacular views to sit and meditate on. There's a greater degree of vegitation than most of the other trails in the area. Some of the footing is a little tricky but if you go slow it's not too bad and weel worth it. If you're a runner I suggest parking at Ice Box Canyon, hiking Dale's Trail to Pine Creek and then jogging back on the scenic loop to your car. Allow about 90 minutes for the hike and 30 min for the jog.
