Distance:2.8 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:83 ft
Hike Time:1.5 hours
Difficulty:Easy
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail

Summary: The hike starts out at large dirt road. There is a couple of picnic spots with tables, grills and bathroom facilities. This is a great place for families to have an afternoon picnic and nice leisurely hike. Follow the dirt road, which will lead to the trail head. Follow the trail to the canyon base. You will see a stone wall with a mysterious opening. Follow the opening and it will drop you into a dry wash bed in the center of the canyon. Stay in the wash until you come to a cattle fence. This is your indication that you are at the end of the hike. Keep your eyes open as you may see rabbits, quail, various lizards and snakes. If you plan on taking an early morning or evening hike be cautious of Javelina.
Trailhead: Take Oracle Rd. north from Ina about 7 miles to Rancho Vistoso Blvd., go left (west) 3.1 miles to a very nice parking area on your left (you will need to make a U turn around the median). At the parking lot is bathrooms, water fountain, and a few small tables. There are two trails leading from the parking lot, one heads south past the bathrooms and the other North, underneath the Rancho Vistoso Blvd. Bridge. (Lat:32.4689 Lon:-110.96709)

We enjoyed the exercise walking in heavy sand up the wash to the petroglyphs

The 2006 monsoon has resulted in the "mysterious opening" disappearing and it is now replaced with a 20' sheer drop. For those that saw the rock wall before, the after view is amazing. Unfortunately that part of the wash is now closed.

Interesting up close look at the sheer walls along the wash. Very short and easy, taking the loop along the fenceline and up the hill made it a little more interesting.

This is a really fun hike. To note, further additions to this hike have created a loop trail. Continued from the discription above, at the cattle fence follow a side-trail to the right which leads up the hill. The trail climbs to the top of the hill where there are great views of the surrounding mountians and the car park at the trailhead. The trail forks at the top of the hill and the right (north) path will lead down the hill to the sandy wash. Following the wash to the right will bring you back to the stone wall with the mysterious opening. This hiking area is wonderful however there are far too many "sprouting" new trails and estabolishment of a defined route is needed
