(Part 1) 1750 N. Altadena Drive, Pasadena 91107. This is the entrance to go to the Nature Center and Trailhead. Look for wooden Sign on right. Park at the far end of parking Lot.

Just re-did hike today. Mount Wilson Toll road is still closed, but you can get around the closure by going through Eaton canyon park and taking the walnut canyon trail. Parts of the toll road are still blocked by landslides (so no cars can pass) but you can easily hike past the landslide areas. Henninger flats still look closed for camping.

HELLO, IS THE TRAIL OPEN, ARE THERE ALTERNATIVE ROUTES UP TO HENNIGER FLATS? ARE THE CAMPGROUNDS OPEN? I WANT TO TAKE MY SON CAMPING UP THERE AS MY DAD DID WHEN I WAS A KID. 03/29/07. THANKS FOR THE INFO.

Can you give a more detailed description of how to get to the flats? Where is walnut canyon? I haven't really hikes before, do i need a lot of expierence? I want to get a small group together and head up there.

You can bypass the closed section of the trail by hiking up the equestrian trail in Walnut Canyon, which branches off from Eaton Canyon. This trail puts you on the toll road above the slide area. There's another slide area higher up, below Henninger Flats, but it covers a much smaller area and hikers have beaten a fair path around it.

Attempted to hike this on February 24, 2007. When you approach the gates at the trailhead, they were locked and big signs warned that there was danger of rockslides. As we looked past the gates, we saw a massive rockslide blocking the trail. (Check out the link for a photo.) So, as of February 2007, you can't hike up to Henniger Flats from the direction described in this write up. Too bad! Looked like a nice hike!

Hiked through Henninger Flats from above on 11/4/2006 (Bailey Canyon to Hastings Peak to Mt. Wilson Toll Road to Henninger Flats to Eaton Canyon Nature Center). There are signs posted stating that the water supply is not safe to drink. Campgrounds are no longer overgrown like they were in May.
