Summary: I noticed a Landing Strip on my favorite biking trail on the Topo map so I decided to check it out. On the way there I took a detour to a new trail I hadn't explored. It lead to Willingham Road. I biked down the road a ways and found a shooting club. I wondered where those rifle shots were coming from! Then I went back to the main trail and rode down to the river. It as 94° outside so I was sweaty and stinky. A cool dip in the river fixed that. (Well, I guess I was still stinky). Then on to the landing strip. I waypointed the landing strip in my GPS so I would be able to find it. I dumped my bike and hiked the last half mile or so. Found it! Cool. I see it on the Topo screen shot you uploaded. It certainly is a different strip. Looking at a basic map (with GPS info on it) I found the bend in the Econ River where it might be. Is there a trail from SR-426/Little Big Econ Forest? It seems that might be closer than the Flagler Trailhead on Snow Hill Rd. Thanks Pete. I think you are referring to the now defunct Seminole Flying Ranch Airport off of 419 where Lawton Chiles Middle School now resides. This hike is to a different landing strip much closer to the river. Not sure who uses it. But I noticed it on my topo maps. Hi Greg - Just an FYI: Back before civilization started moving in out there (and SR 419 was a lonely two-lane road), there was a company that would sell glider (plane) rides based at that airstrip. I always wanted to go on one, but kept putting it off. Then one day after much of the surrounding land was starting to be developed, they closed up. You might have found that out by now, but I thought I'd chime in with that info for you. Thanks for all the trail reviews. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
