Mulkey Creek Trail

Highlights:

Old growth forrest trail top of a hilll overlooking the valley
Near:Corvallis, OR
Scenery:
Distance:4.5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:600 ft
Hike Time:2.5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: The first 1.3 miles of the trail is on a flat gravel path or road, the second half of the hike is in the old growth forest following a well maintained single wide trail along several switch-backs to the top of the hill. This is the harder part of the hike, as the elevation rises sharply 600+ feet as you get to the top. As you enter the trail at the end of the road, stay to your left. You'll know you are on the right trail if you cross the Mulkey Creek trail bridge as you start your hike up the trail. You have several spots to rest and see the view of the valley as there are at least two bench rest areas along the way. At the top, the trail seems to keep going, but in reality loops back to the trail for you hike down.
Trailhead: In Corvallis, Oregon take Harrision Blvd. west until you cross 53rd Street. After crossing 53rd look for the Bald Hill parking lot on your left about .3 miles up the road. From the parking area, cross the bridge and take the immediate trail on your right. This gravel path is a public easement through the Diamond A ranch land. You will travel .6 miles along the edge of a pasture, then take a left on a gravel road. Stay on this road heading west for .7 miles, until it dead-ends at the trailhead. Take the 1 mile single track trail to the summit (stay left at the fork) The distance is 2.3 miles, one way, with an elevation gain of about 600 feet.

The Mulkey creek trail is available to hikers year round, bikes and horses during the dry season: April 15- Oct 31st. I did receive a permit from Benton County parks dept to place this cache. Please tread lightly and respect our public land!

Very beautiful, It starts out in farm land into a cool forest with a handsome canopy, Views anent the most stunning but they are very attractive, the moss growth on the trees gives in an outstanding manifestation and the climb up is challenging and delightful
