Summary: This is a workout hike. You start at the gate on the 500 road and go left at Coronemiller Lake, then you climp 700 ft in about 3 miles to the "4+1" Junction at the top of the climb. Continue strait and stay right at the "Y" and head down the steep decent on the 582 to the orange gate at Soap Creek Road. Check out the view of the valley. At the bottom, catch your breath and then climb back up to the junction and back down to your car. Whew! Well done. Trailhead: From Corvallis take HWY 99 W north. Take a left on Peavy Arboretum Road and look for the Oregon State Peavy Arboretum turn off on your left. As you enter, stay left and park at the orange gate parking lot. This is your starting point and there is a port-a-john and kiosk at the parking lot. I would come here for trail running, hiking, and dog walking, and exploring... no matter what I wanted to do, Peavy had the trails for it. There is a small lake near an old rock quarry where you can watch salamanders. There is also another lake by the OSU logging competition yard. Several historic signs point out CCC sites. You can pick and choose your experience - whether you want to see an old growth forest, an overview, an uphill hike, a fast singletrack mountain bike along logging roads, or just a winding forest trail to jog. it was nice for how close to the city it is, if you just want a hike outside but don't want to go far it is nice. not to hard to complete.
