Summary: If you're on the road and need an interesting place to keep the suppleness of your legs intact while on the road between Zion and the Grand Canyon, this former Mormon tithing ranch makes a good stop. The trail begins outside the Visitor Center and takes you past fields, livestock pens, and a historic fort that never fired a shot before marching you up a ridge for a panoramic vista of the Arizona Strip.

Watch for the telegraph wires that were run by plural wives living at the fort and the Honeymoon Trail, a now faint road that newlyweds took to get their marriages sealed in the St. George, Utah temple.

Trailhead: From Interstate 15: Take Utah Route 9 (Zion exit) at Hurricane. Turn right on Utah Route 59 southeast out of Hurricane. At the Arizona border, this becomes Arizona Route 389. The monument is 45 miles southeast of Hurricane. Turn left on Moccasin Road.

From Fredonia (Route 89): Head west for 15 miles on Arizona Route 389. Turn right on Moccasin Road.

The visitor center is less than a quarter of a mile on the left. (Lat:36.86256 Lon:-112.73767)
