Summary: This "lollypop loop" is cobbled together from some old Boy Scout camp trails, which cross several old Boy Scout camps recently purchased by the county. It uses the new Schuber and Millstone trails. These don't appear on current maps. It's a pleasant and easy hike, with a nice overlook. Start at the orange blazed Schuber trail. The trail soon runs along the route of the Revolutionary War era Cannonball Road, which was built by the Continental Army to move munitions and troops out of sight of Tory spies in the valley below. The trail connects with the white blazed Millstone Trail. Turn right and you'll soon reach a nice overlook. Continue on the Millstone and you'll cross a road. From here, it's a short walk to Camp Glen Gray. Upon entering the camp, pick up the Millstone again on the far side of the parking lot. The trail skirts a swamp and heads back to the Schuber Trail. From here retrace your steps to your car Trailhead: Route 287 to Skyline Drive exit. Left off ramp onto Skyline Drive. Park at upper parking lot on left. Trailhead is on other side of road, near sign for Camp Tamarack. The lot is all broken up so watch where you park. Also, be careful crossing the street to the trail head. Speeding cars! Trail looks like a driveway at first (you are not allowed to drive it) but there are cars that go in to a private residence. This hike rating above says its EASY but i say it is NO WAY. There are lots of hills, rocks, down trees to climb over or under if you are small enough :) It says 2 hours and that is probably right if you follow the trail correctly. There is a tricky spot. Once you see a residential road to the left GO THAT WAY. You will still see the white tail markings continuing to the right... Took this hike in the hottest summer days of August. Saw a fawn. Lake Vreeland was a nice break. Personnel from Boy Scout camp are not ready to see hikers walking through their camp. Trail up from Lake V could be dangerous after a rain. Recommend this hike, and will do again in a different season. Maybe a good winter hike. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
