Summary: Awesome hike or mountain bike ride lakeside around Seneca Creek State Park's Clopper Lake. Trail is mostly gorgeous single track which makes for a great hike or ride. If riding it's a low to moderate difficulty. The terrain is pretty flat but there are sections that have a bunch of roots along the trail.
Park is open 8am to sunset make sure you're out before sunset as they are pretty strict about closing time. The trail has a little bit of everything as it twists along the lakeside. There are several different types of forests and plenty of wildlife to enjoy. This would be a suitable hike for the whole family as it's not too taxing. Very peacful and enjoyable loop!

Trailhead: Enter Seneca Valley State Park. You may have to pay an entrance fee on weekends depending on the season. Follow the signs to the boat house. Pass the boat house and turn left at the King Fisher Overlook sign. Parking area will be on your left. The trail head is clearly visible from the parking lot. (Lat:39.14557 Lon:-77.25702)

Great walk for 2 hours around lake

I've done this hike a couple times in the fall and it's very pretty and easy to get to from metro DC. It takes me about one brisk hour to get around.

This was an excellent hike that was close into town! It took an hour and a half to hike around the lake. There were several beaver lodges, which was quite a site to see! There were several places where the beavers had chopped down trees. Overall, this was a nice afternoon hike!

Beavers have moved in on the south shore of the lake and have felled a couple dozen trees into the water. There is also a new beaver lodge on the shore in an inlet. You can walk right up to it. (Dec 2004)

*** Change of Park Hours: New hours are 10AM to Sunset. *** Perhaps this is just winter hours (my family and I visited the park this past Sunday, Feb 22), but the sign at the main entrance stating the new hours looked permanent. Enjoyed the hike. A little muddy this time of year (much of the snow and ice had melted) but nice trail otherwise. Also, for small children like ours, there is a wonderful recycled-tire playground along the hike, maybe 5-10 min's from the parking area.
