Summary: The hike starts by following the Green Trail up the mountain to where the Orange trail crosses the Green trail. Go west on the Orange Trail until you reach a point where the Orange Trail takes a 90-degree turn northwest, leading back down the mountain. You will pass where the Yellow Trail turns off to your right (northwest). After reaching the point where the Orange Trail leads down the mountain, look straight ahead (southwest) and you will see the remnants of a trail. This is the old Yellow Trail, a few blazes on the trees will confirm this. Few people know of this trail and it's not on the park trail maps. Follow this unknown section of the old Yellow Trail down the mountain. There are 2 easy stream crossings and the trail parallels a creek. The trail ends at where the Red (bike) trail crosses Peavine Falls Road. To finish the loop follow Peavine Falls Road back to the parking area. I hope you enjoy hiking this largely unknow trail in Oak Mtn State Park. Trailhead: To reach the Trailhead in Oak Mtn State Park travel I-65 to Cahaba Valley Road (Exit 246). Follow the signs to Oak Mtn State Park. You will travel State Park Road to the entrance of Oak Mtn State Park. Once entering Oak Mtn State Park, follow John Findley Drive approximately a mile until you see Terrace Drive on your right. Follow Terrace Drive to the Oak Mtn Beach parking area (across from the Wildlife Nature Trail). Park at the Oak Mtn Beach parking area. The entrance to the Green Trail, where this hike starts, is across the street (Terrace Drive) about 75 yards west of the entrance to the Wildlife Nature Trail. There is a $2 fee for adults to enter the park and a $1 fee for children. It leads up to Peavine Falls. The orange trail is near the North end of the park and the North Trail Head parking area. It connects the White Trail, near Shackleford Point, and the Blue Trail. The green and orange trails are about 6 miles apart at the closest place. Perhaps he is referring to the Red Trail which does cross the green trail. I am a trail runner that runs these trails every weekend. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
